Chapter 402 To The Next Round
After giving his team the third goal, the match continued with Sunglow United knowing that trying to get into the game now was going to be a huge hassle.
They still didn\'t want to concede a fourth goal so they did their best to make sure that wasn\'t going to happen.
I guess that worked out well for them because they didn\'t concede another goal until the referee blew his whistle thrice to bring the match to an end.
"There\'s the whistle, it is all over," Jim said. "Unique FC were obviously the favorites and they did not disappoint."
"I wasn\'t expecting them to disappoint but if Sunglow United had played it cool and calm instead of rushing at Frankie and Fredinho to get two red cards, this game would have been way tougher for Unique FC, of course, that wouldn\'t have meant anything if Norman had decided to start with his starting eleven." Steve expressed.
"Yeah, you make a good point," Jim replied. "Now, Unique FC moves to the third round where they will have to face Spree City, this is the round before the quarterfinals so I\'m almost sure both teams are going to give it that all."
"Almost? Why not fully sure?" Steve asked.
"Because I\'m half expecting Norman to bench his star players."
"Well, he benched some of them against Frono FC who seem to be a bit better than Spree City so far this season so why can\'t he do it against, that said, it won\'t be easy to win against Spree City without his starting midfield at least because they have quite a good midfield that could make things difficult for him." Steve expressed.
"Yeah, my thoughts exactly but I think he already knows that more than we do."
After that, the commentators talked about a few other things before bringing the broadcast to an end.
Dave was announced as the man of the match which was very well expected.
The players greeted the fans who cheered them on till the end, and after that, they decided to start making their way off the pitch.
Mateo was walking alongside Dave as always and they seemed to be discussing something when they ran into Emma.
She seemed to be putting on a black coat because the weather was a bit chilly and she had both of her hands in her pocket.
"Hey, boys, nice work out there." She said with a smile.
"Thanks," Dave said.
Emma nodded before turning her gaze toward Mateo who was wondering why she was looking at him like that now.
"Why…."
"If you\'re looking for Amber, she\'s over there." She said before pointing toward the interview area.
"Hey, I didn\'t even ask you anything about her."
"It looked like you were about to." She replied.
"It looked like I was about to ask. Why would you even make that assumption?"
"And why are you getting mad over nothing, I just told you she was over there if you were looking for her, it was an assumption but it\'s not like I said anything bad."
After hearing her say that, Mateo let out a deep sigh.
"Well, I wasn\'t looking for her." He said with a calm voice this time. "I\'ll be heading down now, Dave."
"It\'s quite interesting whenever you two are at each other\'s throat," Dave said.
"So, you\'re saying that you enjoy watching us fight?" She asked before shooting him a glare.
"Oh, dear."
After dealing with what he had to deal with outside, Dave made his way down the locker room.
As he got closer to the locker room, he could hear the noise coming from there and just as he got close enough, his thoughts were confirmed.
Minino, the midfielder who didn\'t get a single minute of playtime in the match that had just been concluded, was busy making a lot of noise in the locker room.
I guess he had a lot of energy from not taking part in the match and of course, there were other players who joined him in his post-match show.
Mateo was busy going through his phone by the side and since their lockers were close to each other, he made his way to him and sat down beside him.
"Hey, Emma told me to tell you that she\'s sorry…."
"I know she didn\'t say that," Mateo said before he could finish saying what he was.
"Oh, I guess you know your sister way too much, which isn\'t a surprise."
"Even if she did say that, there\'s no need for it, it\'s not like she said anything bad, and it\'s also not like I\'m mad or anything." The winger expressed.
"Are you sure? Because you sound a little upset and your face doesn\'t look that bright."
"Don\'t worry, it\'s nothing." He said before shaking his head.
"Nothing?"
"Yeah."
"Okay," Dave said before slowly turning his gaze away.
<He\'s mad at someone, but it\'s not his sister>
\'If it\'s not Emma then who is it?\'
<I\'m sorry, I don\'t think I can tell you that>
\'Why not?\'
<Because he doesn\'t want you to know>
After receiving that response from Catherine, the goalkeeper let out a sigh.
\'Let\'s see here, he was actually in a good mood until Emma mentioned Amber, so it has to be Amber, right? Of course, it has to be her, but why is he mad at her?\'
<Wow, you\'ve become such a fast thinker>
\'Not the time, Catherine.\' The goalkeeper said subconsciously before turning his gaze to Mateo who still had his gaze on his phone. \'I wonder what happened, but anyway, can I see my post-match rewards now?\'
<Sure, you gained a lot of experience points today with that fine performance>
[ Victory rewards ]
[ Four crucial saves: +40 exp ]
[ Goals conceded (0): +150 exp ]
[ Scored a goal: +150 exp ]
[ Two assists: +100 exp×2 ]
\'That is a lot of experience points.\'
<Well, you earned it>
\'Yeah, and I also got two hundred more and give stat points from that super easy match quest.\'
<Well, this was a very easy team to beat and even though Norman didn\'t unleash the full force it was still somewhat a walk in the park for you guys>
\'Yeah, but our next match is against West Ham United in the Europa Conference League.\'
<Well, they don\'t seem to be much of a threat either but depending on how well they prepare and how you guys go into the match, they could be>
\'You\'re right, I just hope coach doesn\'t plan to underestimate or take things easy against them and start everyone who is supposed to start.\'
Norman soon came in to see the players and also talk to them about a few other things.
After that, the players began to make their way home.
Dave made his way to his car after meeting up with Mateo outside to see that his face looked brighter than it was before, maybe that was because he was with Minino just a few minutes ago.
Dave drove straight home and after driving in through the gate, he parked his car carelessly in the open space before making his way inside the house.
As soon as he entered the house, he made his way straight to the couch and crashed down on it.
He stayed there for a while without saying anything, not even replying to whatever Catherine was saying in his head until he heard the door open.
He slowly dragged himself up to sit up on the couch.
It was obviously Emma who had just entered the house and she was heading toward him now with a bright smile on her face, she also had something in her hand.
"What\'s that?"
"Oh, this?" She said before she dropped it on the table and removed the cover to reveal that it was a small cake. "It\'s a cake to celebrate your newly broken record."
"Another one? You know you don\'t have to get a cake anytime I break a record but still, this is so sweet of you."
"I just wish you would tell me whenever you\'re going to break a record in a match so that I can make the cake myself." She said,
"Trust me, even I didn\'t know I was going to break a record like that today." The goalkeeper said.
"I know, things like this are unpredictable but don\'t worry about it." She said before turning her gaze to the kitchen. "Let me go get a knife."
She returned with the knife soon and cut the cake, they enjoyed their pieces in silence until Dave decided to ask something.
"Do you have any idea what Amber did to upset Mateo?"
"Upset Mateo? How do you know she did something to upset him? Did he tell you that?" She asked.
"No, I kind of figured that out from the way he acted when you mentioned her name."
"Oh, now I\'m wondering what happened, they were acting kind of cozy the other day when your teammates were here."
"So, you have no idea."
"No." She said before taking a bite from her piece of cake.
